The Management, technical team, players and officials of Kalibi Sporting Club on Saturday, 29 August 2026, paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, at his official residence in Cantonments, Accra.
The visit formed part of the Club’s activities during its pre-season training tour in Accra ahead of its maiden campaign in the UMB Division One League.
The delegation included members of the Club’s football and volleyball teams, both male and female, and used the occasion to formally share with the Speaker the Club’s recent achievements, vision and long-term ambitions.
Central to the visit was the celebration of Kalibi Sporting Club’s historic qualification to Ghana’s Division One League and its determination to establish itself as a formidable sporting institution capable of developing talent from the Upper West Region for national and international competition.
The Rt. Hon. Speaker expressed delight at the remarkable progress of the Club, particularly its emergence from the Upper West Region to compete at a higher level of Ghanaian football. He commended the Club for its determination and contribution towards reviving competitive football and expanding opportunities for young sportsmen and women in the region.
The Speaker was particularly intrigued by the Club’s roots and its indigenous name, “Kalibi,” which carries a distinct cultural meaning and identity. He expressed excitement that a Club originating from his constituency and traditional area was making significant strides on the national sporting scene.
In a light-hearted but significant expression of his attachment to the Club, Rt. Hon. Bagbin remarked that, as an elder and grandfather of the area, Kalibi Sporting Club was effectively his Club and he was henceforth claiming ownership of it. The declaration was warmly received by the delegation.
The Management of Kalibi Sporting Club, presented the Club’s vision and long-term development plans to the Speaker, highlighting its commitment to identifying, nurturing and empowering young sporting talents while creating sustainable pathways for them to excel.
Kalibi Sporting Club has grown into a multidisciplinary sporting institution with active participation in football, volleyball, athletics and handball. Its teams and athletes continue to make significant strides in their respective disciplines at the regional and national levels, with ambitions of extending their presence further onto the international stage.
Rt. Hon. Bagbin pledged his support for the development of sports and expressed his willingness to support initiatives that seek to make Ghanaian sports more competitive and prominent both nationally and internationally.

The Speaker also took time to interact with the sportsmen and women, urging them to remain focused on their respective careers and maintain the highest standards of discipline both on and off the field of play.
He emphasised that talent alone was not enough to guarantee success and encouraged the athletes to embrace discipline, dedication, hard work, teamwork, perseverance and good conduct as essential ingredients for sustainable achievement in sports and in life.
The occasion further highlighted the leadership and commitment of the President of Kalibi Sporting Club, Bernard Anbataayela Mornah, whose efforts have contributed significantly to the growth and transformation of the Club. Under his leadership, Kalibi Sporting Club has brought together talented young sportsmen and women across different sporting disciplines and continues to create opportunities for them to develop their abilities and pursue their sporting aspirations.
Despite the very short notice given to the Speaker regarding the visit, Rt. Hon. Bagbin demonstrated his support for the Club by making a generous contribution of GH¢20,000.00 to assist Kalibi Sporting Club with the cost of its stay and pre-season activities in Accra. The Management, technical team and players of the Club expressed their profound gratitude to the Speaker for this timely and invaluable support.
The Club expressed its profound appreciation to Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin for granting the delegation audience and for the warm reception, words of encouragement, invaluable advice and commitment to supporting the Club and sports development generally.
